acl, day two

  1. the girl- city and colour: my current obsession. dallas green is up there on my pure genius list with ryan adams and conor oberst. i can’t really describe his sound except that it’s soulful and acoustic (vague, i know). just go listen to this song.
  2. left behind- css: they’re brazilian and their name [cansei de ser sexy] means “i got tired of being sexy” in portuguese. i don’t think i need to do any more convincing. their sound’s electronicky like crystal castles or the rapture, and this song is very shiny toy guns.
  3. if you must- del tha funky homosapien: as his name suggests, he’s not your ordinary hiphop artist. he’s weird, eccentric, but his respect for the music and the lyrics he crafts is reknown throught the industry. (disclaimer: this review was written by dj snakk since i know nothing about hiphop)
  4. whistle for the choir- the fratellis: a brtish alt-rock band that reminds me of the arctic monkeys…except that their slow songs aren’t reminiscent of the killers. which means they’re not as somber or morose sounding. one of my new faves.
  5. teardrop- jose gonzalez: heard about this guy on npr a few years ago. he’s probably most famous for that one song “heartbeats.” his newest album could be the soundtrack to into the wild. or some other movie with extended driving scenes in the wilderness. really simplistic and a bit tribal?
  6. soul on fire- spiritualized: a weird cross between death cab and the polyphonic spree. the choir and strings sound pretty, but too much of it might put me to sleep.

who i’m dying to see: conor oberst, mason jennings, MGMT

other big names: beck, the black keys, erykah badu, iron & wine, robert plant and alison krauss
