the song that just won’t die…

don’t get me wrong. i love “don’t stop believin’”. i’m never not in the mood to hear it. i even love when they play it as the bars close, regardless of how cliche that is.

but really. it’s like the cockroach of music. no matter how hard anyone tries (unintentionally, of course) to kill it, the song just won’t die. it endures all and lives on. forever.

i guess that’s a testament to how awesome the song is. it can never be 100% ruined. BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN YOU SHOULD KEEP TRYING. at the very least, each sad attempt to “recreate” or “reuse” the song in some new, “original” way compromises its integrity. tarnishes its reputation, if you will.

today, best week ever listed 10 recent examples of this exact phenomenon. they include tv shows, sports, covers, and even covers of covers.

lay off the journey, people.
