monsters of folk on conan

i think i was like foaming at the mouth while watching this. to see them in the flesh (kind of), performing live after all that talk. amazing!

im not sure what the equivalent of this would be for you, personally, but just imagine 4 of the greatest (and current, obviously) musicians of the same genre, collaborating. i dont know how the world didnt explode from this.

i would like to see everyone get a little more excited about this. hello…conor oberst, mike mogis, m.ward, and jim james RECORDED AN ALBUM TOGETHER. it’s groundbreaking, to say the very least. i mean, wouldn’t you agree that bright eyes has been one of the most influential bands of our entire generation? and the fact that those 2 guys paired up with a guy whose album with an indie starlet was touted as one of the best albums of 2008 (not by me, obviously) and a guy who spawned a whole new alt-genre of american bands like fleet foxes, band of horses, the black keys…HOW IS THIS ALBUM NOT FLYING OFF THE SHELVES.

in a recent interview, the guys said that this was a collaboration to the absolute fullest definition of the word. during their shows, they plan to switch around on instruments, vocals, everything. i cant even wrap my mind around the amount of talent that these guys possess individually, yet alone together?!? thank goodness they’re not touring in texas because i’d probably shed some tears just being in their presence, and that’s embarassing! (it also looks like the proceeds from each show on the tour is going to a different charity. that’s pretty cool.)

this is how theyre describing their shows:

“Conor Oberst, Jim James, M Ward and Mike Mogis will be a 2 1/2 hour musical event showcasing brand new songs from the forthcoming album as well as songs fans have come to enjoy from their respective Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket and M Ward catalogues.”

see? foaming at the mouth.

anyway, check out this performance of “say please” from late night with conan last night.

who knew mogis could shred?
