mgmt’s snl debut was everything but disappointing!

when i heard mgmt would be the musical guest on snl, i was skeptical. but i was wrong! they sounded great! the quality of their performances have improved tenfold since the oracular spectacular tour…although it’s a shame that this new batch of songs seems less likely to engage an audience quite like the previous ones.

they started with “flash delirium.” andrew looked like a dream. perfect outfit, down to the guitar strap. however, i’m sure the viewers in studio (and at home, probably) were like, ummm what the heck?! i wanted to hear “kids!” and to the guitarist on the right, you are not jack black. and even when jack black makes those faces, it’s hella annoying. please stop.

then, they played “brian eno,” which in itself is a VERY WEIRD song. (it honestly sounds like the music from my addams family sega genesis game). do yourself a favor and fast forward to 3:45. andrew’s half smirk/smile indicates that they are about to just screw with all of us, and oh, they do. cue the most rampantly odd outro i have ever seen. it’s like they were preparing us for something epic, but then it just sounds like someone banging on piano keys with open palms. BECAUSE THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING. dude looks like a mad scientist over there. i died laughing. it was amazing.

this picture just about sums it all up:
