this headline makes me happy:

bon iver leads 2012 grammy nominations

CoS makes the point that the grammy rules make absolutely no sense. i love how a song that was performed on the grammys last year is nominated for song of the year. (ahem, mumford.) WHATEVER.

i’m lazy, so these videos should suffice. though i will say, it was a great mix of old and new. and israel nebeker has one of the best voices i have ever heard in my life.

and the trumpet player reminds me of landry clarke.

and my personal favorite…

i saw blind pilot at the 9:30 club on sunday night. (in case you were wondering, i was standing next to a guy who was ALSO frantically refreshing the steelers/ravens score on his phone the entire time. SOULMATE!)

it was amazing. a MUCH different vibe than when i saw them at lolla ’09.

naturally, i haven’t been able to stop listening to them since the show. here’s an oldie but a goodie. i would even venture to say it’s their best:

what is sure to be the tour of the year:

got this delivered to my inbox this morning. an unfortunate selection of cities, considering my current location.

2/27 Miami, FL – American Airlines Arena
2/29 Tampa, FL – St. Pete Times Forum
3/1 Atlanta, GA – Philips Arena
3/3 Houston, TX – Toyota Center
3/5 Dallas, TX – American Airlines Center
3/7 Austin, TX – Frank Erwin Center
3/9 St. Louis, MO – Scotttrade Center
3/11 Kansas City, MO – Sprint Center
3/13 Broomfield, CO – 1stBank Center
3/15 Glendale, AZ – Arena

ironically, i have an emotional attachment to most of the cities on this list. maybe it’s a sign i need to buy a planet ticket.

with a title like this, you sure CAN’T LOSE.

craig finn, front man of the hold steady, has released the details of his solo album, and i have no idea what it sounds like, but i certainly support it:

“I’m calling this record Clear Heart Full Eyes. It’s a juxtaposed reference to Friday Night Lights, a TV show that excited and moved me and also happened in Texas. Further, “Clear Heart” signifies honesty and transparency, and “Full Eyes” suggests experience. Thus, it’s about being optimistic and open without succumbing to the weariness or doubt that comes with age and experience. To me, that is what it’s all about.”
